Energy project in Helsingborg

At Catena, we prioritize energy efficiency in our real estate projects. An example is the Vångagärdet 20 property in Helsingborg, where we switched to district heating to reduce energy losses and environmental impact

Improving the energy efficiency of our properties is one of the most crucial efforts for Catena, both from an environmental and cost perspective. By reducing energy losses, we can not only save significant amounts but also contribute to a more sustainable future.

In 2019, we undertook one of our most extensive energy projects at the Vångagärdet 20 property in southern Helsingborg, where Catena's headquarters is also located. The building, constructed between 1958 and 1988, covers approximately 26,000 square meters, with over 12,000 square meters dedicated to production and storage areas, and the rest consisting of office and other spaces.

In collaboration with Öresundskraft, we decided to modernize the property by converting from the existing gas and steam system to a more energy-efficient district heating system. The old steam boiler was not only inefficient but also contributed to significant energy losses and high operating costs. By connecting the building to the district heating network, which consists of nearly 100 percent recycled energy, we have created a better indoor climate, reduced our environmental impact, and secured more reliable and cost-effective operations.

This investment is both economically and environmentally advantageous. We expect the system change to result in an annual savings of approximately 900,000 SEK and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by around 765 tons of CO2e. This is equivalent to removing about 300 cars from the roads that would otherwise drive 15,000 kilometers per year.
